weekly round-up #1
I don't really know if this'll be a trend going forward, but hey. Always up for trying new things. I also don't know when is a good day to do a round-up post. Maybe Sunday evenings? I meant to do this last night, really, but I got so comfy cosy in bed that I didn't really want to leave.
Anyway!
β―β―β―β― GAME STUFF
β’ I finished Miitopia this week. It was a cute, silly little game that was nice to just relax with. The gameplay loop does get repetitive after a while, but it's fine. I mostly just played it while watching something else anyway. I started it because I needed something to satisfy the Tomodachi Life itch because I couldn't find my DS, and it's served it's purpose.
β’ I started Pokemon Legends: Z-A. I'm hoping it doesn't end up like Violet where I started it and then stopped halfway for literally... what, two years or something? Before finally finishing that.
It's my first Legends game since I didn't play Arceus, and it took a while to get used to being able to just run around during battles and catching pokemon. I like it though. It feels more active in a way the standard system isn't.
β’ I went through the big No ICE in Minnesota bundle I got. Made a small list of games from there I wanted to play - both actual games and the solo journalling rpgs - and ended up playing a few on my laptop.
Grow Light and Delivery by Danielle Taphanel were very nice, brief little experiences (literally a couple minutes each) and introduced me to the game engine Bitsy which I'd never heard of before. They have a little directory on their site of games made in Bitsy and a lot of them look really cool for how simple the engine looks.
β’ Medusa by Noxether was another Bitsy game that I played. It was made for a jam in 9hrs according to the creator, and even though they weren't fully happy with the final result, I think it's one of my favourite things. It resonated with me in a way a lot of bigger things haven't, which is a pretty cool achievement for something so brief.
β―β―β―β― IRL STUFF
β’ A lot of this week was unfortunately taken up by just doomscrolling. I'm not pleased about that. Even with my timers locking me out after fifteen minutes, I'd just unlock it and repeat for a couple hours. The goal for this week is to absolutely do my best to avoid looking at news and social media too much, because I am prone to just straight up ruining my own days / plans with doomscrolling.
β’ Things worthy of note though that happened include my second psychologist appointment and finding out one of my many cousins got engaged. The psychologist appointment went well, like I said in the previous post about it. She agreed with the first assessment on my dysphoria and she'll send off a referral for surgery.
She also asked if I'd been formally diagnosed with autism. I told her I haven't, but I had suspicions and joked that my autistic friends had 'peer-reviewed' me as autistic. She basically agreed and said she'd make sure I'm in a room with dimmer lights, so. Very funny getting a free mini disgnosis of that.
β’ The only other thing that happened was I had to pop into a hospital late one evening after our local doctor's office closed for the weekend. My right ear had been fucked up since we landed, and I assumed it was fine because it always hurts when we land. It's why I dislike flying. Turned out that because I flew while sick with a cold, I fucked up my sinuses and inner ear on the right side of my head, so I'm on antibiotics for that now.
β―β―β―β― LINKS
I've seen people post little lists of things they found interesting or liked during a day or the week. I figured that might be fun to do, so here we are. This includes stuff I watched, music I listened to, and posts that I read and liked / resonated with.
